Thakurgoan: Three days after they were closed to the District Police Lines, six policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector, of Pirganj police were suspended on Monday over extortion charges.

Police superintend of Thakurgoan took the action against sub-inspectors Nur Alam and Mamun, and constables Geof Ahmed, Abdul

Jalil, Sohagh and Monoranjan.

Police said local people caught the policemen while they were taking toll from a motorcycle at Gogarhat on Pirganj-Ranishankail road in Ranishankail on 17 September.

The angry mob assaulted them before informing the police station.

Stations Shukumar Mohanta and KM Shawkat Ali respectively went to the spot and rescued them.

Later, they were closed to the District Police Lines on Friday. At the same time, assistant police super (circle) Abul Kalam Azad was assigned to investigate the incident.
