Madaripur: A minor girl was found buried at Sendia village in Rajoir upazila of Madaripur on Tuesday evening, two days after she went missing from a local mosque.

The victim is Aduri, a Class-I student of Sendia Government Primary School and daughter of Tuku Sardar of the village.

Police and locals said Aduri went to the local mosque on Sunday morning to take Arabic lessons.

As there were few students due to rain, imam of the mosque Shafiqul Islam of Boiampur village in Sadar upazila of Pirojpur district, asked other students to go back home. He, however, tactfully kept Aduri at the mosque.

Later, an anonymous caller phoned the family members of the victim and demanded Tk 2 lakh for releasing her.

A team of police arrested Imam Shafiqul after victim’s father Tuku informed Rajoir Police Station and the superintendent of police about the incident.

Acting on Shafiqul’s confessional statement, the law enforcers recovered Aduri’s body from beneath the ground near the mosque on Tuesday evening.

Rajoir police officer-in-charge of Station M Anwar Hossain Bhuiyan said a gang of kidnappers, including Shafiqul, abducted the girl.

He also said they were trying to arrest the other culprits.
