2 workers killed as roof collapses

Savar: Two construction workers were killed and 18 others were injured when the roof of an under-construction building collapsed on them at Bathuli in Dhamrai upazila on Wednesday morning.

The deceased are Shamsul Haque and Delwar Hossain Sujon.

Witnesses said the roof of the under-construction building of Rising Group collapsed and fell on the workers while they were working at about 6:30am, leaving Shamsul dead on the spot and 19 others critically injured.

Delwar died on the way to a local hospital.

Of the injured, 15 workers were admitted to different clinics and hospitals.

Savar fire service deputy director Mojammel Haque said five firefighting units from Dhamrai, DEPZ, Manikganj, Savar and Mirpur fire stations were working to remove rubble from the spot while filing this report.

Dhamrai Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shariful Haque visited the spot.

The district administration has decided to give compensation amounting to Tk20,000 for each of the deceased and Tk5,000 for each of the injured.

The Rising Group authorities will donate Tk two lakh for each of the deceased and Tk25,000 for each of the injured.
