Obaidul Quader against extra bus fare
Dhaka: Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday warned of exemplary action against the people involved in raising extra bus fare taking the advantage of the on rush of passengers in the Eid-ul-Azha festival.
‘Punitive action is a must, if any transport worker or any group is found in taking additional transport fare from the passengers on the Eid occasion,’ he told journalists after visiting Sayedabad Bus Stand in the afternoon.
Replying to a query, the minister expressed his satisfaction over the present situation of the highways and claimed that no report of traffic tailback from any corner of the country reached here while none complained against taking excessive fare from the passengers till date.
‘We are trying our level best to ensure a smooth journey for the home-bound passengers but incessant rains in last few days affected the road-arrangements in some areas like Sayedabad entry point,’ he mentioned.
About the dilapidated roads in Sayedabad area, he said this has been earlier informed to the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation over phone.
‘But the mayor said he is facing fund-crisis to repair those roads,’ he added.
Concerned officials of the ministry and representatives of transport owners association accompanied the minister during the visit.
