Police have arrested a government official for supplying money to carry out violence in Chittagong.

Chittagong police arrested Ziaul Karim, a govt official, from the district food controller’s office on Wednesday. He is an official of the Guimara warehouse in Khagrachhari.

Assistant director of Chittagong district food controller’s office Chandrashekhar Mallik said ‘a team of plainclothes arrested Ziaul from the district office after a farewell programme of some officials.’

Ziaul came from Khagrachhari to Chittagong to participate in the farewell programme, he added.

Chittagong metropolitan police deputy commissioner Banaj Kumar said, ‘Ziaul has been arrested based on the confessions of some people arrested over recent violent incidents.’
