Mymensingh: A high government official was crushed under train at Mymensingh railway station, about 122km south of Dhaka, on Monday.

The deceased is Ranjit Kumar Sarker, Joint secretary of Primary and Mass Education Ministry.

Mymensingh railway police officer-in-charge (OC) Abdul Ahad Khan said Ranjit Kumar, 55, hailing from Mohonganj upazila of Netrakona district got crushed under the wheels of ‘Haor Express’ at about 11:00am.

The OC said Ranjit got down from the Dhaka-bound inter-city train during a stopover at the Mymensingh Railway Station. ‘As the train left the station, Ranjit tried to get into it hurriedly and slipped under its wheels,’ Ahad said.

He was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital with his two legs cut off and he died there at about 12:30pm.

Ranjit met the tragic end of his life while returning to the capital after enjoying Eid vacation at his village home.
