Gazipur: A court in Gazipur on Tuesday convicted a man and sentenced him to death for killing his sister in 2012.

The convict is Jahirul Islam Kalu, son of Nurul Islam, a resident of Baromi village in Sreepur upazila of the district.

The court also fined the convict Tk 10,000.

According to prosecution, Kalu stabbed his pregnant sister Nargis to death following enmity over the ownership of a land on 5 March 2012 when she was at her father’s home for child delivery.

Nurul Islam, father of the deceased, filed a case with Sreepur police station on the day. Later, police arrested Kalu from his house.

After examining the witnesses District and Sessions Judge AKM Enamul Haque handed down the verdict.
