Hasina blames BNP-Jamaat over foreigner murder
Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina claimed Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami were involved in the murder of the Italian citizen to make the country unstable.
Sheikh Hasina suspected a BNP leader’s link behind the murder. The leader has earlier made a remark on the incident.
The Prime minister on Tuesday evening in a press conference at UN headquarters’ Bangladesh mission said the law and order situation of the country will not affect the cricket matches here.
However, Hasina said it is Australian cricket team’s decision whether they will come to Bangladesh or not.
Sheikh Hasina said after her arrival in the county, the BNP leader will be quizzed in this connection.
Earlier, on Tuesday, BNP standing committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan condemning the murder said the government itself has been patronising communalism and spreading fear among mass people of the country.
He said, ‘We know the government has tried to make gains from the western world by showing the fear of bugbear of communalism and extremism. Though they’ve got some benefits by showing such fear, finally they’ll be its victim. On Monday evening’s incident is one of its instances.’
A 50-years-old Italian Cesare Tavella, also Project Manager for PROOFS (Profitable Opportunities for Food Security) of the Netherlands-based non-governmental organisation ‘ICCO Cooperation’, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Gulshan while out jogging on Monday evening.
Later, the hardline Islamist group Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the murder.
