HC seeks probe report on Tangail police firing casualties
Dhaka: The High Court (HC) on Wednesday sought the investigation report on the casualties in police firing in Kalihati of Tangail earlier this month asking the home secretary and others concerned to comply with the order in next 60 days.
‘The court also issued a rule on the officials concerned seeking to know if police had fired gunshots to disperse the agitated mob maintaining the relevant laws,’ a spokesman of the attorney general's office told newsmen.
The High Court bench comprising Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Zafar Ahmed issued the order after a primary hearing on a Bangladesh Women Lawyers Association writ moved by Advocated Salma Ali and Advocate Fawzia Karim.
Attorney general Mahbubey Alam represented the state during the hearing.
Besides the home secretary, eight others, including the inspector general of police, deputy inspector general of police of Dhaka range that covers Tangail, deputy commissioner and Superintendent of police of the district and officer in-charge of Kalihati police station were made respondents in the writ.
