Custody, bail petitions for Shawkat Mahmud rejected
Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Thursday turned down both the bail and custody prayers for BNP chairperson’s adviser and journalist leader Shawkat Mahmud in a case filed with Paltan police.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ataul Haque rejected the petitions after a hearing.
Sub-inspector Mohammad Mamun Munshi sought 10 days’ for questioning the journalist leader in the case while Shawkat Mahmud’s lawyer M Sanaullah Miah filed bail petition for him.
On 18 August, Detective Branch (DB) arrested Shawkat Mahmud from in front of Samurai Convention Centre in the capital’s Panthapath area.
Earlier on 24 January, miscreants obstructed police from performing their duties, vandalised several vehicles and blasted crude bombs in front of Rokeya Mansion in Purana Paltan area of Dhaka.
Later police filed the case with the Paltan police.
