Cricketer Shahadat’s wife arrested
Dhaka: Police arrested cricketer Shahadat Hossain’s wife, Jesmin Jahan Nrittya, for her alleged involvement in torturing their domestic help.
Mirpur model police arrested Nrittya from her Malibagh residence at about 3:30am on Sunday.
Police said the detainee has been kept at Mirpur model police station. She will be appeared before the court on Sunday.
Earlier, on 6 September, local people rescued an 11-year-old girl, named Mahfuza Akhter Happy, bearing marks of torture in different parts of her body on a road in Journalist Residential Area in Pallabi of Dhaka.
She claimed that she used to work at cricketer Shahadat’s home, but fled from there after she was tortured by his family members.
On 7 September, a case was filed against Shahadat Hossain and his wife Nrittya Shahadat over torturing their housemaid.
Later, it could be confirmed that a girl had gone missing from Shahadat’s house. Mirpur Model Police assistant sub-inspector Salam said the national team cricketer had lodged a general diary on Sunday about his domestic help going missing.
A journalist named Mozammel Hossain filed the case with Mirpur Model Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000.
Shahadat, who played 38 Tests and 51 one-day internationals for Bangladesh, missed out on the recent series against India and South Africa after twisting his ankle during a Test match against Pakistan in May.
