Cricketer Sahadat’s wife sent to jail
Dhaka: A court in Dhaka on Sunday sent Nrittya Shahadat, wife of National Cricket Team player Shahadat Hossain, to jail after rejecting her bail petition in a case filed for torturing domestic help.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Yunus Khan passed the order after rejecting her bail and remand petitions.
The court also asked the investigation officer of the case to interrogate Nitto at the jail gate in the next three days if needed.
Earlier, Shafiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Mirpur Model Police and also the investigation officer of the case, produced her before the court seeking 5-day police custody.
Kazi Najibullah Hiru, Nrittya Sahadat’s counsel, filed a petition before the court for her bail.
Tipped off, a team of police arrested Nitto Shahadat from Pabna Lane at Malibagh in the capital on early Sunday.
On 6 September, Mahfuza Akhter Happy, 11, the domestic help of Shahadat’s residence, was found lying injured on a road in Sangbadik Colony area at Pallabi in Dhaka.
Happy claimed that Shahdat Hossain and his wife tortured her. The couple went into hiding after the incident.
On 7 September, a journalist named Mojammel Hossain filed a case against Shahadat and her wife Nrittya with Mirpur Model Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act–2000.
