PM’s remarks to hamper foreigner killings probe: BNP
Dhaka: BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday said irresponsible remarks from the government’s top level over the murders of two foreigners will not only create obstacles to investigations but also turn it difficult to identify the assailants.
In a statement, he demanded the government ensure exemplary punishment of the killers of foreigners after identifying them through a proper probe.
“We strongly condemn the killing of the two foreign citizens by the assailants. Such murders demonstrated that the country’s law and order situation is now in a very bad shape,” he said.
Meanwhile, at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, party spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon feared that the Prime Minister’s remark that BNP-Jamaat nexus might have a link to the recent killing of two foreigners may influence the investigations into the murders.
He also alleged that blaming the opposition the government is apparently trying to hide the real perpetrators. “We urge the government high-ups to refrain from making such remarks.”
Ripon said the government should engage the international investigation agencies like FBI and the detective teams from both Italy and Japan for finding out the killers of the two foreigners and punishing them.
