Shibir man held over attack on church priest

Pabna: Police arrested a member of Islami Chatra Shibir for his alleged involvement in attacking a Christian church priest in Pabna on Monday.
The detainee is Obaidul Islam, a resident of Aotapara village of Ishwardi upazila in Pabna.
He was arrested from his house on Monday night, said the Ishwardi police
Different cases were pending against him with police, said the officer-in-charge of Ishwardi police.
Earlier on Monday morning, a 50-year-old priest of the local church, Luk Sarkar, escaped a murder attempt with injures at School Para under Ishwardi upazila in Pabna.
He was a priest of ‘Faith Bible Church’ in the upazila of Tala upazila in Satkhira.
Victim’s wife Padma Sarkar said three young men came to their house in a motorcycle at about 9:00am to listen to sermons from her husband.
Hearing his screams from another room, Padma said, she rushed there and found her husband lying in a pool of blood and the youths fleeing the house.
Luk sustained injures in his throat as the miscreants tried to slaughter him with a sharp weapon, she said.
Local people first took Luk to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex from where he was shifted to Pabna General Hospital.
Contacted, Ishwardi Police officer-in-charge Biman Kumar Das said, on information, police visited the spot and seized the motorcycle used by the miscreants from the spot.
