Chittagong: Three separate cases were filed against six members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) with Karnaphuli police on Tuesday.

The accused include four of the five who were arrested on Monday by detectives and two others absconding.

A team of Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested five JMB men, including its military wing chief, in a drive at Khoajnagar under Karnaphuli Police Station on Monday evening.

The DB team also then recovered nine grenades, one pistol, 120 bullets, several knives and huge bomb-making materials.

The arrestees were Zabed, chief of the outfit’s military wing, and its four members—Sujon, Bulbul, Mahbub, and his brother Shahjahan alias Kajol.

Later, Zabed was killed in a grenade blast in the city’s Oxygen Kuaish Road area early on Tuesday.

DB Sub-inspector Aftab Hossain of CMP filed the three cases with the police station against the six JMB members on Tuesday afternoon.

Of the cases, one was filed against Sujon, Bulbul, Mahbub, and Shahjahan under the Arms Act and two others against the above-mentioned four along with Farbin and Gias under the Explosives Act and Anti-Terrorism Act.
