Dhaka: Family members of death row war criminal Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid met him at the Dhaka Central Jail.

The family entered into the jail at about 10:47am on Friday to meet the Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general.

Mujahid’s counsels at about 11:00am said five members of his family including his wife, three sons, and daughter went there to meet Mujahid.

Dhaka central jail senior jail super Mohammad Jahangir Alam said Mujahid’s family members had asked for jail authorities’ permission to meet him.

Mujahid’s son, Ahmed Mabruf, said the jail authorities had given us permission to meet with my father at 11:00am.

Earlier, on 17 July 2013, Jamaat Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid was sentenced to death as ICT 2 found him guilty of five out of seven charges brought against him.

Mujahid on 12 August filed the appeal with the SC in the same year challenging the verdict.

But, on 16 July this year the Appellate Division of the SC upheld death penalty for Mujahid.

On 30 September, the Supreme Court released the full verdicts of the appeals filed by Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid paving way for his execution.

On 1 October, ICT issued death warrant against the Jamaat leader.
