Dhaka: The High Court on Monday ordered Awami League lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton of Gaibandha 1 constituency to surrender before it by 1:00pm in a case filed for shooting a minor boy in Sundarganj upazila of Sylhet.

A two-member bench of Justice Enayetur Rahim and Justice Bhishmo Dev Chakraborty passed the order after a hearing on a bail petition in the case filed by the lawyer of Liton.

The next hearing on the case is likely to be held in presence of lawmaker Liton at afternoon.

Earlier on 2 October, an 8-year-old boy, Sourav, son of Sazu Miah of Gopalcharan village, was injured with stray bullets allegedly fired by Manjurul Islam Liton, lawmaker, at the village in Sundarganj upazila in Rangpur.

Later, the boy who received two bullets in his two legs was taken to Sundarganj Upazila Health Complex and then shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

A case was filed against Liton on the day for attempting to kill the boy by firing bullets. Liton went into hiding after the case was filed.

On 8 October, another case was filed against lawmaker Liton on charge of vandalism and looting.

Besides, the licences of two firearms of the lawmaker were revoked for ‘the sake of public safety’.
