Faridpur: A court in Faridpur on Monday convicted a man and sentenced him to death for killing his wife in 2010.

The convict was identified as Mithu Dewan, residents of Kandi village in Sadarpur upazila.

The court also fined the convict Tk 15,000.

According to the prosecution, Dulufa Begam, was married off to Mithu on March in 2010.

After their marriage, Mithu used to demand dowry from his wife.

On 13 May, 2010, Mithu and his family members beat up Dulufa and at one stage, strangulated her to death.

On 14 May, Salam Talukder, brother of the deceased, filed a case accusing three people including Mithu and his father Shukur.

Police submitted charge sheet against Mithu and Shukur. However, Shukur died during the trial.

After examining witnesses and all the records, the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Bazlur Rahman handed down the verdict.
