Jhinaidah: A woman and her one and a half-year old daughter were burnt to death while they were sleeping as miscreants set fire to their house pouring petrol at Forashpur village of Kaliganj, Jhinaidah early on Monday.

The victims are Taslima, believed to be 40 years old, and her daughter Tasmia.

Two others were sustained burn injuries in the incident. The injured are Taslima’s husband Nazrul Islam, around 50-years-old, and her daughter Urmi, who is 20-years-old.

Local people rescued the injured and took them to Jessore Medical College Hospital.

Later Taslima and Tasmia were shifted to Dhaka as their condition deteriorated, but they died on the way on Tuesday morning.

Doctors said that Nazrul is in critical condition.

Jessore additional police superintendent quoting Urmi said she was married to Kamal Hossain, a resident of Khejura village, three years ago. Few months back, Urmi came to her father’s residence as she had a dispute with her husband over not having any children.

Kamal came to take Urmi from his father’s residence on Monday, said the police.

Kamal and his associates set fire to her father’s residence after pouring petrol through the windows at about 2:00am as Urmi refused to go home with Kamal, claimed Urmi.

However, Kamal fled from the spot immediately after the incident. Police said they are conducting drives to hold Kamal and his associates.
