Khoka jailed for 13 years in graft case
Dhaka: BNP leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka has been sentenced to 13 years in prison and fined Tk 11lakh in an ACC graft case.
Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar of Dhaka Special Judge’s court 3 on Tuesday sentenced the former mayor to 10 years of imprisonment for hiding information and 3 years in prison for acquiring illegal wealth.
The court also fined Khoka Tk10 lakh, in default, to serve six months more imprisonment and Tk one lakh, in default, to server one month more imprisonment.
The court ordered government to seize Khoka’s wealth money worth Tk 10,05,0000.
Earlier, on 4 October, the court fixed 20 October for declaring the verdict after concluding a hearing of the case.
Earlier, on 2 April, 2008, Assistant Director of ACC Shamsul Alam filed a graft case for accumulating illegal wealth worth Tk10.50 crore against the former Dhaka City Corporation mayor, his wife Ismat Ara, daughter Sarika Sadeque and son Ishraf Hossain with Ramna Police Station.
On 1 July of the same year, Shamsul, also investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against Khoka and his wife Ismat.
However, the High Court stayed the case proceedings against Ismat Ara.
The judge pronounced the verdict after examining all documents and statements of 40 witnesses.
