Natore: An Awami League activist was killed in an attack by a rival group over establishing supremacy at Tirail village in Singra upazila of Natore on Thursday morning.

The deceased is Abdul Hannan, an activist of the local unit of Awami League.

Police said there had been a longstanding dispute between the supporters of union parishad chairman Arif and the supporters of another Awami League leader Zinnah over establishing supremacy in the area.

Over the issue, the followers of Arif Group attacked the men of Zinnah Group in the morning.

They stabbed Hannan, leaving him dead on the spot.

Police went to the spot and recovered the body.

Police also arrested several people from the village.

Additional police members have been deployed to avoid any untoward situation.
