Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has termed baseless the ruling party leaders’ speculation about the party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s homecoming from London.

‘It’s a baseless speculation that our chairperson might not return home very soon from London. Speculation is a great problem in Bangladesh which sometimes buries the truth,’ he said.

Fakhrul was talking to reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early Thursday after his return from Singapore.

The BNP acting secretary general said Khaleda Zia will return home very soon completing her medical treatment.

He, however, said the date and time of her homecoming depends on doctor’s advice.

As his attention was drawn to the ruling party’s allegation that BNP has a hand behind the recent murders of two foreigners, he turned down the accusation saying it is a groundless and misleading campaign against their party.

‘Unfortunately, it has become a culture here to blame the opposition for any band incident in the country. Probably, they find it very convenient,’ Fakhrul observed.

Earlier, Fakhrul along with his wife Rahat Ara Begum arrived at the Airport by a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at about 1:15am, nearly seven hours behind the schedule.

Contacted, Biman officials said the BG-085 flight got stuck at Singapore Airport for several hours following a technical glitch.

On 17 October, the BNP acting secretary general went to Singapore for medical treatment, and underwent some medical tests and received treatment at National University Hospital, Singapore.
