Death of college girl in road crash sparks protests
Dhaka: Local people staged demonstrations and put up blockade on Kalshi-Banani Flyover Road in Kalshi area on Thursday morning protesting the death of a college student in a road crash on Wednesday night.
Over one hundred people put up barricade on the road for the second consecutive day demanding punishment of the driver of the vehicle and a speed breaker on the road.
Quoting witnesses, police said 18-years-old Sharmin Akhter, a resident of the Paschim Matikata area under Cantonment police station, was critically injured after being hit by a vehicle at ECB chatter of Manikdi area while she was returning home after submitting her admission form to Titumir College at about 1:30am on Wednesday.
She was rushed to Combined Military Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries in the evening.
Enraged by the accident, local people blocked the road from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Wednesday.
