1 killed in capital ‘shootout’
Dhaka: A man was killed in a reported gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members on 300-feet Road of Kuril-Badda area in the capital city in the early hours of Friday.
The Badda police sub-inspector said police found the body at about 3:15am in the area.
RAB officials claimed the deceased, Jahirul Islam Bijoy, aged around 32, is a member of a criminal gang.
The Badda police quoting RAB members said RAB conducted a drive on the 300-feet Road at about 2:45am as a gang of criminals assembled there. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire to them and RAB also fired back, which triggered a gunfight.
RAB said Jahirul received a bullet during the gunfight while his associates managed to flee from the spot.
Police said they have found a driving licence in the pocket of the deceased, which help police to identify the body.
The body was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
