BNP demands fair probe into Huseni Dalan blasts
Dhaka: Strongly denouncing the bomb blasts at Huseni Dalan in Old Dhaka, Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Saturday demanded a fair and neutral investigation into the incident to identify the perpetrators.
‘We strongly condemn the incident and demand a fair and impartial probe into the tragic incident to identify the attackers and bring them to justice immediately,’ said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Speaking at a press briefing, he also warned that if the government fails to identify the perpetrators they will turn Frank Staine one day and go beyond the control.
The press briefing was held at BNP's Nayaplatan Central office after a joint meeting of BNP and its associate bodies.
A teenage boy was killed and over 80 people were injured in bomb blasts at Huseni Dalan in Old Dhaka early Saturday. Three homemade bombs went off around 1:45 am when Shia community people gathered there for bringing out a Tajia procession marking holy Ashura.
Meanwhile, IGP AKM Shahidul Hoque after a visit to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the morning said the explosions at Huseni Dalan and the recent killing of a police officer at Gabtoli are linked.
Fakhrul prayed for salvation of the departed souls of those killed in the blast and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members, and wised early recovery of those injured.
As a journalist drew his attention that the IGP obstinately blame BNP for Huseni Dalan blast as some BNP leaders were arrested in connection with police official murder, he said, ‘They (police officials) can say this as they're now talking like ruling party men. We want to say the government must find out the real criminals through a proper probe.’
Asked whether their party thinks an international probe is necessary into the Old Dhaka explosion, he said, ‘There's many very experienced investigators in our country and a proper inquiry is possible by them. The mystery behind the incident will be wrapped up if a fair investigation is carried out. Any international team can carry out probe if the government wants.’
He, however, said an impartial investigation depends on the government's good will. ‘Everything will be possible if the intention is good. But it's the problem when the government after any incident, like the killing of foreigners, blames BNP. They make the investigators biased.’
