Dhaka: Police arrested Ashulia BNP president and former lawmaker Dewan Mohammad Salahuddin Babu for his connection in arson attack.

Salahuddin Babu was detained from his Gulshan residence in a joint drive of Savar Model police and Ashulia Thana police on Sunday morning, said the arrestee’s wife Sabina.

Police said Salahuddin was fugitive in several cases filed against him for arson attack on vehicles in Savar and Ashulia areas after the 5 January election.

He is kept at Savar thana police station and later will be shifted to Ashulia police station.

Ashulia police officer-in-charge Mohsin Quader said police was behind him after a long time.

Recently he has been activated on politics in spite of being wanted in several cases, said police.

Police arrested him on secret information.
