Dhaka: European Union (EU) Ambassador to Bangladesh Pierre Mayaudon on Sunday condemned the bomb attack on a Shia community gathering marking Ashura in the old part of Dhaka city and called for a thorough investigation into it.

In a statement, Ambassador Mayaudon urged all relevant official authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident and bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice.

He conveyed his condolences to the family of the deceased and expressed sympathy to all victims.

Mayaudon said he is confident that Bangladesh will respond with the highest sense of unity to this unprecedented act of violence.

A teenage boy was killed and around 100 people were injured in bomb blasts early on Saturday barely half an hour before bringing out a traditional Tajia procession by the Shia Muslim community from their Hoseni Dalan headquarters in Old Dhaka.
