Rajshahi: Police arrested Rajshahi city Jamaat-e-Islami chief Abul Hashem from Binodpur area of the capital city on Saturday night.

Family said a team of Detective Branch (DB) members picked up the Jamaat ameer from his house in Binodpur area under Matihar Police Station when he returned from Dhaka at about 8:30pm.

Assistant Commissioner of DB Sushanta Chandra Roy said he did not know anything about this.

Later contacted, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Shamsuddin confirmed the matter, saying Abul Hashem was arrested in connection with the killing of police constable Siddhartha Sarker.
