Goalando: An alleged robber was killed in a gunfight with police in Daulatdia terminal area of the upazila in Goalando early on Monday.

The deceased is Arshad Bepari, a resident of Uttar Daulatdia of the upazila. He was accused in seven cases, including murder and robbery cases, filed with Goalando police.

Police in a drive arrested Arshad from the area on Sunday night when he was taking preparation for committing a robbery.

Based on information gleaned from him during the primary
interrogation, police conducted another drive near by-pass road area at about 1:30am for recovering arms, said Shah Jalal, officer-in-charge of the Goalondo police.

Sensing the presence of police, Arshad’s cohorts opened fire at them, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight, which left Arshad critically injured.

The OC, an assistant sub-inspector Rafiq Uddin and a constable Anisuddin of Goalondo Police Station were also injured in the incident.

Later he was taken to Rajbari Sadar Hospital where he died at about 3:00am.

Police also recovered a foreign pistol with two rounds of bullets.
