Men held over threatening Imran H Sarker to death
Mymensingh: Members of Detective Branch (DB) arrested a man in connection with the case filed over issuing death threat to Dr Imran H Sarker, organiser of a faction of Ganajagaran Manch, from Ishwarganj early on Tuesday.
The arrestee is Sohel Miah, believed to 25 years old.
Officer-in-charge of DB Imrul Hossain Kazi said tipped off, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in the area and arrested Sohel at about 12:30am.
Later, DB handed over him to Mymensingh CID.
Earlier on 17 October, Dr Imran H Sarker received a death threat through his Facebook account.
He registered a general diary (GD) with Shahbagh police station in this connection on the day.
In a Facebook status, the Ganajagaran Manch organiser said, ‘Araf Al Islam of Isb (Islamic State Bangladesh?), a fanatic group, gave me death threat around 10:19am. He wrote to me that I will be killed like the way the foreigners were killed.’
He further said that on scrutiny of the IP address, it was found that the threat had been given through internet from the issuer’s mobile phone, and the address was Ananda Mohan College of Mymensingh district.
In another Facebook status after registering the GD, Sarkar wrote: ‘Hope the law enforcing agencies will bring the so-called ‘Islamic State terrorist’ under the law of the land.’
