AL welcomes Shamsher Mobin resignation
Dhaka: The ruling Awami League on Thursday welcomed the resignation of BNP’s Vice Chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury from the party saying it is a sign of no-confidence in Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman’s leadership.
‘Many BNP leaders dislike Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman’s violent activities. They think people’s welfare and the country’s development are not possible by them [Khaleda, Tarique]. Shamsher Mobin has resigned from the party showing no-confidence to their activities,’
Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said on Thursday.
The Awami League leader said this while addressing a meeting with the mayors and councilors of Dhaka City Corporations (North and South) at the party President’s Dhanmondi office in the city.
Congratulating Shamsher Mobin on his resignation from BNP, Hanif said he has taken the right decision to quit BNP.
Earlier in the day, Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury announced his retirement from politics resigning from all the posts of BNP on health ground.
Hanif said, ‘I think persons like Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, who believes in the Liberation War spirit would come out from the party.’
About the remarks of BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan made that their party would not take responsibility if anyone of the party is involved in the killing of any foreigner, Hanif said, ‘The killing was not committed in anyone’s personal interest… it’s a political killing. It should be traced out who gave the direction to Qaiyum to carry out the killing.’
He went on saying, ‘We’ve repeatedly said the killings of the foreigners are nothing but a conspiracy. The direction of the killing came from London.’
Claiming that their party does not do the politics of killing, Nazrul Islam Khan on Wednesday said BNP would not take the responsibility for any killing carried out by any individual.
Pointing to the Home Minister’s comment that BNP leader MA Qaiyum is the ‘big brother’ behind the murder of Italian citizen Tavella, Nazrul said BNP leaders are being implicated in the foreigners’ killings to prove the Prime Minister’s remark correct as she, sitting abroad, had said BNP-Jamaat carried out the murders.
