Dhaka: The by-polls in Moulvibazar-3 constituency that fell vacant with the death of Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali will be held on 8 December.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on Thursday announced the by-election schedule at a press conference at the Election Commission Secretariat.

According to the schedule, the deadline for submission of nomination paper is 11 November, while the date for scrutiny is 14 November and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is 22 November.

The commission has a legal obligation to arrange the by-polls in the parliamentary seat-237 by 12 December  next as the constituency, comprising of Moulvibazar sadar and Rajnagar upazilas, fell vacant on 14 September, the CEC said.

The constituency has a total of 3,47,954 voters – 1,74,371 men and 1,73,583 women—under its one municipality and 20 Union Parishads.
