Dhaka: The Awami League-led 14-party alliance on Thursday threatened to take legal action against Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) if it does not apologise for calling ‘Jatiya Sangsad a theatre of puppet show’.

“Through its comment, TIB insulted every member of parliament. They have uttered indecent and unforgivable words about Jatiya Sangsad. It’s not possible even for a political party to make such a comment.  They [TIB] are more dangerous than BNP and Jamaat,” said Health Minister Mohammad Nasim.

Nasim, also a member of the Awami League presidium, said this while addressing a press briefing after a meeting of 14-party at AL president’s Dhanmondi political office.

Urging the Foreign Ministry to investigate TIB’s financers, Nasim said, “TIB demanded fresh polls. Who has given it the right to come up with that demand?”

While releasing TIB’s report on Parliament Watch, TIB executive director Iftekharuzzaman on Sunday said the JS has turned into a theatre of puppet show and called for an inclusive election to have an effective parliament.

About the resignation of the BNP’s Vice Chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, the Awami League leader said, “It’s their internal affair that who’ll join or quit it. But, we can say it’s just the start to desert BNP.”

Earlier in the day, Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury announced his retirement from politics resigning from all the posts of BNP on health ground.
