One ‘makes confession’ over Tavella killing
Dhaka: Minhajul Arefin Russel alias Kala Russel, who was arrested in connection with the killing of Italian national Cesare Tavella, reportedly made confessional statement before a court in Dhaka on Sunday.
Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan recoded the deposition of Russel under section 164.
Earlier, Detective Branch inspector Jehad Hossain, also the investigation officer of the case filed over the murder, produced three accused before the court on completion of their eight-day police custody.
On 26 October, a court placed the trio arrested in connection with the Italian national murder on the remand. The two others are Md Russel Chowdhury alias Chakki Russel and Md Shakhawat Hossain alias Sharif.
Police arrested Chakki Russel from Gulshan area while Shakhawat Hossain and Kala Russel from Badda in the city.
Cesare Tavella, 50, Project Manager for PROOFS (Profitable Opportunities for Food Security) of the Netherlands-based non-governmental organisation ‘ICCO Cooperation’, was shot to death by some miscreants in the city’s Gulshan area on 28 September.
A case was filed with Gulshan Police Station on the day. It was transferred to DB police on 29 September.
