8 hurt in CU BCL infighting
Chittagong: Eight people were injured in a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Chittagong University (CU) on Monday.
Habibur Rahman, sub-inspector of Hathazari Police Station, said the clash ensued between the supporters of Alamgir Tipu, CU BCL unit president, and Sujon, general secretary of the unit, following an altercation over exchanging greetings with the students who went there to sit for the admission test, leaving eight BCL men wounded.
Of the injured, four were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Police rushed in and fired several gunshots and teargas canisters to disperse them.
Hathazari Police Station officer in-charge Ismail and a constable named Enamul were also injured during the clash.
Additional police have been deployed on the campus following the incident.
Later, police recovered two shotguns and a pistol along with large locally made weapons after searching the Shahjalal Hall and Shah Amanat Hall. Police also arrested 30 BCL during the raid.
