Narayanganj: A court in Narayanganj on Tuesday sentenced two people to death and three others to life term imprisonment for killing a schoolgirl after violating her in Sadar upazila in 1999.

The death-sentenced convicts are Khokon Miah and Mohor Chan while lifers are Safar Ali, Nure Alam and Monir Hossain. They hail from Siddhirganj area of the upazila.

According to the prosecution, some miscreants abducted class VIII student Tania and killed her after gang-rape in Siddhirganj area on 13 December in 1999.

Later, police recovered the body of the girl from an abandon house in the area.

The victim’s maternal uncle Faruque Miah filed a case against six people in this connection.

Police submitted a charge sheet against the six accused to a court after investigation.

However, one of the six accused Tara Miah died during the trail.

After examining witnesses and documents, Judge of Narayanganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal KM Rasheduzzaman Raja handed down the verdict.
