Offenders must be punished: shipping minister
Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan has vowed to take actions against the people responsible for the ferry capsize that took more than 48 lives on Sunday.
‘I have visited the spot. Offenders responsible for such accidents should not go unpunished. We must take actions against the offenders,’ said the minister in Dhaka on Sunday after visiting the spot in Manikganj about 44 kilometres away from the capital, Dhaka.
He said, ‘This accident could be averted... This is an untoward incident. This horrific accident could be escaped if the driver was careful.’
‘We have formed two bodies to investigate the incident... Law enforcers have already detained four persons for their suspected involvement in the incident,’ he added.
Responding to a question whether this time the authorities will comply with the recommendations put forward by the investigation body, the minister said offenders will face tough legal actions according to the recommendations made by the probe body.
