‘Dhaka-Guwahati bus service trial run from May 2’
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday said the government has decided to launch Dhaka-Guwahati bus service on trial basis from 2 May.
The decision was taken in an inter-ministerial meeting held at Road Transport and Bridges with Obaidul Quader in chair.
A minibus of 26-30 seats will ply Dhaka-Sylhet-Shillong-Guwahati route on trial, said the minister adding that the number of buses will be increased as per passengers’ demand.
Bangladesh Foreign Ministry will inform the Indian government about it in details.
It was decided at the meeting that the immigrations and customs facilities will be developed gradually as per the demand.
Besides, wi-fi service and tracking system will be available in the buses on the route, said the minister.
Prime Minister's Economic Affairs Adviser Dr Mashiur Rahman, Roads and Highways division secretary MAN Siddique and high official of the ministries concerned, among others, attended the meeting.
The Dhaka-Guwahati bus service, which will go via Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya of India, will be in addition to two passenger bus services to Dhaka already operating from Kolkata in West Bengal and Agartala in Tripura.
