Savar: A case has been filed in connection with the killing of a constable of Sreepur camp of industrial police at Baraipara in Ashulia.

Azharul Islam, sub-inspector of Ashulia Police Station, filed the case with the police station at about 2:00am on Thursday making two unidentified people accused, said Mohsinul Kadir, officer-in-charge of the police station.

Meanwhile, police in separate drives arrested seven people in this connection.

On Wednesday, police constable Mukul Hossain was killed and another injured as some unidentified miscreants made a sudden attack on them and hacked them indiscriminately.

Mukul Hossain along with Nur-E-Alam, another constable, went to Baraipara check post adjacent to Nandan Park on the Kaliakoir-Nabinagar highway at about 7:00am to take charge of the check post.

When three men, riding a motorcycle, reached the check post, the policemen stopped them.

Suddenly, the trio swooped on the two policemen and hacked them with sharp weapons at about 8:00am.

When Mukul and Nur-e-Alam took shelter in a nearby restaurant for escaping the attack the miscreants chased them and stabbed them in the restaurant indiscriminately, leaving them critically injured.

The miscreants fled away firing blank shots.

Later, the injured constables were whisked off to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared Mukul dead.

Nur-E-Alam was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition kept deteriorating.

Meanwhile, a 3-member inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the attack on the policemen.

Additional DIG (Admin) of Dhaka Range Md Shafiqul Islam will lead the probe committee while two other members are Superintendent of Police (Admin) of Industrial Police Md Saidur Rahman and Additional SP (Crime-North) of Dhaka district Kazi Ashraful Azim.

The committee was asked to submit its report within five working days, said Additional DIG Md Shafiqul Islam.
