Khaleda renews call for all party discussion
Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia has renewed her call for holding discussion among all political parties to rescue the country from grave political crisis.
‘The state is heading towards terrible crisis. We [BNP] prioritise the interest of the country. We try to uphold the interest of the people. To overcome the current unrest, we have called for national unity and proposed to hold an all-party discussion... but unfortunately it is true that the government had paid no heed to our demand,’ she said in a press released obtained in Dhaka on Thursday.
‘The government must try to realise the causes behind present political unrest. It is the government that has created this crisis, which has worsened over the years. Crisis has emerged just after the government trashed the provision of caretaker government, which was introduced to hold a free and fair election joined by all parties. The government must find a solution before the time. Our party thinks, an election under a non-party government should be held with any delay,’ she added.
The BNP leader suggested several issues all parties should agree on, namely ensure voting rights, free press, judicial independence, impartial law enforcement, unbiased administration and election commission reform.
