Child strangulated to death allegedly by father

Bagerhat: A two and a half month old boy was strangulated to death allegedly by his father at Notun Chanderchar village in Chitolmari upazila on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Osman Sheikh, son of Faizul Sheikh, a resident of Char Borbariya village of the upazila.

Leby Begum, mother of the child, said her husband Faizul had an extra-marital affair with another woman. They often locked into altercation over the issue.

An altercation took place between the couple over the issue on Friday morning.

At one stage, as her husband went out of the house, Leby spotted red injury marks at her son’s throat and found him dead.

Leby alleged that Faizul strangulated her son.

Later, the local people caught Faizul from a tea-stall and handed him over to police.

Police also recovered the body and sent it to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue.

Mohammad Hayatul Islam, Bagerhat additional superintendent of police said, during the primary interrogation, Faizul confessed that he strangulated his son.
