Arrest warrant issued against Tarique Rahman
Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Sunday issued a warrant for the arrest of BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman in a sedition case filed for terming Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman ‘Pakbandhu’.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Lutfur Rahman Shishir passed the order after taking the probe report submitted by police into cognizance.
Earlier on 20 September, DB police submitted the probe report against Tarique Rahman in the sedition case before the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Asaduzzaman Nur.
The court also fixed 8 November for accepting of the charges.
On 19 October, 2014, president of Bangabandhu Foundation Advocate Moshiur Rahman Malek filed the case with Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka.
Later, the court ordered Detective Branch (DB) of police to submit a probe report in this regard.
According to the case statement, Tarique Rahman termed Sheikh Mujibur Rahman ‘Pakbandhu’ while he was addressing a programme in London on 29 September in 2014.
In the statement, the petitioner quoted Tarique as saying, ‘Sheikh Mujib is not Bangabandhu, rather he is Pakbandhu. He cannot be the father of the nation, he is a killer.’
