Gopalganj: Two people were killed and 45 others injured when a bus carrying Muslim devotees plunged into a roadside ditch at Kajulia in sadar upazila on Monday.

The deceased were Mostafa Sheikh, 45 and Ansar Ali, 55, hailed from Batiaghata upazlia of Khulna.

Gopalganj police officer in-charge Jakir Hossain Mollah said the accident took place in the area at about 11:45 pm when the bus plunged into a roadside ditch after one of its wheels got punctured, leaving two peopled dead on the spot and 45 others injured.

Among the injured, five people were admitted to Gopalganj hospital while the others were given first aid.

The accident occurred when the Muslim devotees were going to attend a Urus Sharif of Chormonai Peer in Barisal with a convoy of four vehicles from Boithaghata in Khulna.
