Dhaka: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali on Friday expressed deep shock over twin bomb attacks in Beirut, Lebanon that killed 43 Lebanese people and injured over 240 people.

‘We strongly condemn the barbaric and cowardly terrorist attacks,’ Prime Minister Hasina said in a message to her Lebanon counterpart Tammam Salam.

She expressed her deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family members of the victims as well as all the Lebanese brethren for this tragic incident. The attacks took place on Thursday evening.

‘The people of Bangladesh join me in expressing their solidarity in your fight against terrorism in the country and in the region,’ she said.

The Prime Minister reiterated that Bangladesh denounces terrorism in all its forms and manifestations as her government has been pursuing ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards terrorism.

‘We reaffirm our government’s commitment to work together with the Republic of Lebanon and the world community to fight against this menace,’ she said.

In a separate message to Lebanon Foreign Minister Gabran Bassil, Mahmood Ali said he is deeply saddened and at dismay to learn that 43 Lebanese innocent people were killed and more than 240 injured on Thursday evening caused by twin explosions in southern Beirut.

Both the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and early recovery of the injured ones.
