BNP joint secretary general Salah Uddin

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party joint secretary general Salah Uddin on Monday held Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina responsible for damaging image of public institutions by mentioning possible use of military in political purposes.

‘Constitution is not the ultimate authority. It is for the people, not the opposite... No constitution is beyond amendment. The amendment to constitution according to the desire of people is the demand of present time.’

He said Sheikh Hasina’s speech on Sunday shows her anxiety of losing ‘illegal power’ gained through ‘farcical polls’.

Salah Uddin said ‘People of the country know that Sheikh Hasina welcomed the military government on behalf of Awami League in 1982. Through the seventh amendment of the constitution, she gave legality to the autocratic rule of Ershad in 1986. Welcoming the illegal taking over power by Moinuddin-Fakhruddin in 2007 she said that government was the outcome of Awami League’s deadly anti-government movement. Awami League came into power through the conspiracy of giving legality to the works of that Moinuddin-Fakhruddin government.’
