Four suspected robbers were beaten to death by a mob at Chowdhurydangi village in Sadar upazila of Faridpur on early Saturday.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Faridpur police assistant superintendent Mohiuddin Ahmed said a gang eight to ten suspected robbers swooped on the area under Charmadhabdia union at about 3:00am and took away valuables from three houses after keeping the house inmates hostage at gunpoint.

Being resisted, the robbers also hit three people with sharp weapons, leaving them critically injured, reports UNB.

Hearing screams of the victims and sensing the presence of the robbers, local people made an announcement through loudspeaker of the local mosque at about 4:00am.

At one stage, the local people chased off the robbers and managed to catch four of them.

The villagers gave them a good thrashing, leaving them dead on the spot.

Police went to the spot and recovered the bodies.
