The deceased is Azizul Islam, 40, a local leader of the ruling party’s youth wing and son of late Abul Mondal of Manikdi village in the upazila.
Police and locals said district unit Juba League convener Obaidur Rahman Chowdhury Jipu had long been at loggerheads with another leader Naim Hasan in the locality.
Azizul was attacked following an altercation between the supporters of the both groups on Monday evening.
The attackers hacked him with sharp weapons at about 7:00pm, leaving him injured.
