Dhaka: Police in a raid on Monday held 16 people in connection with grabbing a piece of land reportedly owned by real estate company Roza Properties at Kakrail in Dhaka.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ramna zone deputy commissioner Shibli Noman said they in a raid detained 16 people in connection with illegal land grabbing and the detainees were kept in Ramna Police Station.

Earlier, the piece of land reportedly owned by real estate company Roza Properties was grabbed by unidentified thugs at Kakrail in Dhaka on Monday afternoon.

Thugs destroyed the establishments on the land with a bulldozer bearing the name of the city corporation on Monday.

Meanwhile, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sayeed Khokhan said that no such drives were carried out by the city corporation.

He also said that actions would be taken against the perpetrators.

Roza Properties, taking the approval of Rajuk, was constructing multi-storeyed building on the 25 katha land in between Rajmoni Isha Kha Hotel and Willes Little Flower School at Kakrail.

Witnesses said some unidentified people destroyed establishments on the land with bulldozer and grabbed the land. A few young men hindered journalists to take photographs during the incident.

Later, the occupiers hanged a banner bearing the name of Willes Little Flower School on the grabbed land.

But the school authorities preferred silence about the issue.
