Banning Jamaat a matter of time: Minister
Dhaka: It is now a matter of time to ban Jamaat-e-Islami as a political party for its involvement in crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War in 1971, says Food Minister Qamrul Islam.
‘Everyone sees the government is sending condemned war criminals to gallows one after another to execute the court verdicts. Many ask us about banning Jamaat which had acted as the mother organisation of all killings during the Independence War. Now I can say it’s just a matter of time to ban Jamaat-e-Islami as a political party,’ he said.
Qamrul, also a joint general secretary of Awami League's Dhaka city unit, came up with the remarks while addressing a discussion organised by Ramna thana unit of the ruling party at the Jaitya Press Club on Sunday, reports UNB.
The programme was organised a day after the execution of two war crimes convicts Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed and BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will take the right decision in right time over banning Jamaat-e-Islami.
Observing that no one will be spared if they are found guilty by the apex court, the minister said the government is disposing of war crimes cases as per law and executing the apex court verdicts with highest degree of impartiality and transparency.
Noting that Sheikh Hasina never compromises with anyone or any force on the execution of verdicts, Qamrul said no foreign force or lobbyist dared to appeal to her about the verdict this time as they know her stance in this regard.
Awami League Dhaka city unit organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad, among others, spoke on the occasion.
