'Shibir man' beaten dead in Jessore
Jessore: A local activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed and two others were injured in a lynch-mob attack near MM College in Jessore on Monday.
The deceased is Habibullah, 22, son of Niamat Ali of Tebaria village in Sharsha upazila while the victims are Al Mamunand Kamrul Hasan.
All of them were students of Economics Department of Government MM College.
Kotwali police officer-in-charge Shikdar Akkas Ali said a group of Shibir activists were holding a clandestine meeting inside the college campus in the afternoon.
Being informed, the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League(BCL) local unit interrogated them over the issue, creating chaos.
At one stage, the BCL men along with the local people beat the trio, leaving them injured.
Later they were rushed to Jessore 25-bed General Hospital where Habibullah died after admission.
Injured Al-Mamun claimed that the BCL men swooped on their dormitory and beat up them mercilessly for no reasons.
Meanwhile, Anwar Hossain Bipul, general secretary of BCL Jessore district unit, said there is no link of BCL in thisconnection as general students beat up the Shibir men following clandestine meeting.
